Today Wednesday 15th October 4th class led the senior assembly. Our theme for this assembly was World Food Day which is on tomorrow Thursday 16th October.

We learned the following:
World Food Day is about hunger in the world
Lots of people around the world say “I am hungry!”
The First World Food Day was held in 1979 which is 46 years ago.
Over 8 million people go to bed hungry every night
Food Security is where people can easily access safe and nutritious food
There is enough food made each day to feed everybody on the planet
World Food Day is when we think about people who are hungry
Over 150 different countries celebrate World Food Day
Ways we could help – shop local, have a meat free day etc.
Malnutrition is when people become weak and sick when they cannot eat healthy and nutritious food
Christians sometimes say a special prayer before they eat called “The Grace”
Other cultures have different ways of saying thanks for food – for example Some people in Japan say, ‘I humbly receive’ before they eat as a way of saying thank you for their meal.
Our prayer was thanks for water because if we do not have water there would be no harvest
We watched a short video which told us the story of the miraculous catch of fish found in Luke 5:1-11. We also watched this year’s Food Day video from FAO – Food and Agricultural Organisation of the United Nations.
